We found that during the period from 1982 to 2012 most of the high latitude areas experienced an increase in growing period largely due to an earlier beginning of vegetation growing season (BGS), but there was no significant trend in the vegetation growing peaks. The upcoming World Food Summit serves as an important opportunity to reconsider the fundamental importance of agriculture - and the degree to which the global and independent nature of human society today requires a re-thinking of our attitudes and approaches to world food production and distribution.

The legislation funded a system of state agricultural experiment stations (SAESs), most of which were established under the direction of the 1862 land grant colleges. Table 1-2 outlines a chronological progression of legislation mandating the many iterations of the land grant college system. The implied increase in seawater alkalinity under the mid-Pliocene warm conditions could have acted to sequester atmospheric CO2 thus providing a negative feedback that possibly contributed to global cooling. Antarctic role in Northern Hemisphere Glaciation. In modern climate, westerly winds augmented by the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) cause prodigious ocean-atmosphere heat flux (>100 Wm-2) and provide the primary source of iron to the micronutrient-limited North Pacific Extension Alternatives in Tropical Africa (Agricultural Administration Unit Occasional Paper). If such losses were cut in half, it could save 500 million metric tons of carbon annually and contribute 12 percent of the total reductions in GHG emissions required to avoid unpleasant global warming, researchers recently reported in Science. Forest depletion ultimately contributes more GHG emissions than all the cars and trucks in use worldwide, says Werner Kurz, a forest ecologist with Natural Resources Canada, who was not involved with the study. "What we are doing in these tropical forests is really a massive problem." Our study emphasizes the role of mantle plumes, plate tectonic motions, and in particular TPW for driving long-term global climatic transitions.
